Volunteer Charity Shop Assistant (Didcot)

Our brand new charity shop in the heart of Didcot is looking for friendly volunteers to join the team, help make the shop a success, and raise vital funds for animal welfare.

As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you will join a small team working alongside the Shop Manager, Assistant Manager and fellow volunteers in our very first shop. RSPCA Oxfordshire and Reading is a self-funded branch, so every pound raised in the shop goes directly towards helping animals in our local area.

About the shop

The shop is run by the RSPCA Oxfordshire and Reading Branch and plays an essential role in raising both funds and the profile of the RSPCA in the local community. We sell a mixture of donated items, including clothes, books, bric-a-brac and collectables, alongside a selection of new goods.

What you’ll be doing

  • Helping customers find what they need
  • Accepting donations of items and money from the public
  • Processing sales through the till and card machine, including Gift Aid
  • Sorting donated items to decide what we can sell
  • Preparing items for sale by steaming and hanging
  • Merchandising stock on the shop floor
  • Creating attractive window displays

What we’re looking for

  • Friendly people who are confident talking to customers
  • Good communication and numeracy skills
  • Flexibility and an ongoing commitment, ideally on regular days
  • Aged 16 or over

Retail experience is ideal but not essential, as full training will be given.

What you’ll get in return

  • The chance to meet new people and make friends in your local area
  • New skills for your CV, including customer service, merchandising and multi-tasking
  • A full induction and training programme
  • Reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses
  • The satisfaction of making a real difference to animal welfare

How to apply

Please send a CV and covering email to operationsmanager@rspcaoxford.org.uk.

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and trial period. We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees and, depending on the position, you may need to sign an agreement and complete specific training before starting.
