You never quite know when a rescue is going to find you. One of our Trustees recently popped into a pub in Upton, an ordinary visit by any measure, and came home with four tiny stray kittens in tow.
The kittens, thought to be around seven weeks old, had been running loose and living in a feral environment. Small, vulnerable, and fending for themselves, they were in urgent need of safety, warmth, and veterinary care. Walking away wasn’t an option.
That instinct, to step in the moment an animal needs help, is at the heart of what our branch is about. Rescue is national, but recovery is local, and it often starts with one person deciding they simply can’t leave an animal behind.
More than a rescue
Getting the kittens to safety was only half the story. Working alongside the Neuter Rangers, we’re now helping to neuter the adult cats at the same location, tackling the root of the problem and preventing more unwanted litters down the line. It’s the difference between rescuing four kittens today and preventing dozens more from being born into hardship tomorrow.
For the four little ones, the focus now is care. They’ve had a difficult start, but they’re safe, they’re supported, and they’re growing stronger by the day. In time, once they’re bigger and fully well, they’ll be ready to find loving homes of their own.
