Two rabbits rescued as part of a multi-animal case are now receiving round-the-clock care from our team, and their road to recovery is far from over.
Mary Kate and Ashley were brought to our Paws & Claws Rabbit Centre by National RSPCA Animal Rescue Officers. Sadly, both bunnies are suffering from two conditions at once: Ringworm and Snuffles.
Ringworm is highly contagious to both animals and humans, which means strict isolation procedures have to be followed at all times. Only one dedicated person can care for the pair, wearing full PPE for every visit, and that person cannot handle any of the other rabbits in our care.
To make matters more complicated, the two medications cannot be given at the same time, so Mary Kate and Ashley need to be attended to twice a day, every day.
Their Snuffles had initially improved enough for that medication to be stopped, bringing treatment down to once daily. Unfortunately, the condition has flared up again, and both medications are now back in full swing.
Treatment for Snuffles is expected to continue for at least another two weeks, while the Ringworm treatment is likely to last three weeks or more. Because of the level of care they need, both bunnies are now in foster with our Operations Manager.
This is exactly the kind of work your support makes possible. Cases like Mary Kate and Ashley require specialist veterinary treatment, dedicated foster care, and weeks of daily medication. None of that happens without the generosity of people in our local community.
