Misty’s Transformation: From Fearful to Fabulous

When Misty was first rescued by RSPCA Oxfordshire, she was virtually feral, living in a rabbit hutch with her kitten, Foggy. Nervous and unsure of people, she seemed unlikely to ever become a house cat. But thanks to the patience and care of her adopter, Misty has made an incredible transformation.

For the last few weeks, Misty has started seeking out affection, wandering over for strokes and even purring contentedly when she sits beside her owner. Once fearful, she now happily jumps onto the bed early in the morning, curling up for a nap.

A big milestone came recently when Misty braved the great outdoors. At first, she hesitated, but soon curiosity took over, and she ventured onto the patio. That night, with a little encouragement and a flashlight, she explored the entire garden. Now, every morning, she eagerly waits by the door, excited to go outside. While she is still closely supervised, Misty’s newfound love for the outdoors provides her with exciting new experiences, from fresh scents to the sounds of birds overhead.

Misty has also made incredible progress in her confidence around people. When visitors arrive, she no longer hides but instead watches them with interest—and even gives a gentle paw tap if they’re in her way! Her playful side has also blossomed; she loves her tunnel toy and the classic cat favourite—the fishing rod toy.

One of the most heartwarming parts of Misty’s journey is her ‘recall’ training. While she may not respond to her name, she certainly knows “treaties!” The moment she hears it, she comes running, knowing she’s about to get a well-earned reward.

Misty’s transformation has been beyond what her owner expected in just three months. From a frightened, feral cat to a confident, affectionate companion, her story is a testament to the power of patience, love, and second chances.
