Local Fosterers Reach Finals of National RSPCA Impact Awards

Two dedicated volunteer fosterers from RSPCA Oxfordshire have been recognised at the national RSPCA Impact Awards, reaching the finals of the prestigious Rescue and Care category.

Charlotte and Michael, who have been fostering cats and kittens with our branch since 2019, were among a select group of finalists celebrated for their outstanding contribution to animal welfare.

Over the past six years, the couple have opened their home to more than 50 vulnerable cats and kittens, providing the care, patience and love needed to give each animal the best possible chance of finding their forever home. Their willingness to take on our most vulnerable animals — and to nurture them back to health — has made an immeasurable difference to our branch.

Their nomination highlighted one particularly challenging case: a fragile litter of kittens, including tiny Acorn, who was so unwell that staff feared he might not survive. Despite both working full-time, Charlotte and Michael provided round-the-clock care for nearly six months, feeding the kittens every few hours, administering medication, and making countless trips to the vets as the litter battled severe cat flu and ringworm.

Thanks to their dedication and perseverance, every single kitten in that litter survived and has since been rehomed to a loving family.

Charlotte and Michael said they were “chuffed” to have been nominated and to represent RSPCA Oxfordshire at the awards ceremony.

“We’re incredibly proud of Charlotte and Michael for reaching the finals,” said Sharon Chrisp, Operations Manager at RSPCA Oxfordshire. “They embody everything that makes our volunteer fosterers so special – compassion, commitment, and a genuine love for the animals in their care. This national recognition is thoroughly deserved.”
