Little Luna’s Big Journey: Healing with Love, Patience and Expert Care

At just 11 weeks old, Luna the German Shepherd Dog puppy has already faced more than her fair share of challenges. But thanks to the swift actions of a caring vet, the dedication of our RSPCA Oxfordshire team, and the tireless support of her wonderful fosterer, Luna is now on the long road to recovery.

Luna came into our care after a heartbreaking accident at home. One of a litter of 11, her owner accidentally stepped on her, causing a serious break to her leg, fracturing both her tibia and fibula. The injury required urgent surgical intervention, with pins and wires used to repair the delicate bones in her growing leg carefully.

This kind of injury would be daunting for any dog, let alone a tiny puppy. But Luna has amazed us all.

Placed with one of our experienced fosterers, Luna is now receiving round-the-clock care, regular vet visits every three days for dressing changes, and strict cage rest to help her bones heal properly. This level of care and commitment is only possible thanks to the passion and teamwork behind the scenes—from our vet partners to our volunteers and staff, everyone plays a part in Luna’s recovery.

Her fosterer describes her as a dream to look after – incredibly laid back, gentle, and affectionate despite all she’s been through. Luna’s resilience is a reminder of why we do what we do. Even in the face of pain and confusion, she greets the world with a wag of her tail and an open heart.

Stories like Luna’s show that rescue doesn’t stop at saving – it continues with healing, love, and the expert rehabilitation our animals need to thrive.

We’ll be sharing updates as Luna continues to grow stronger. For now, she’s enjoying plenty of rest, cuddles and kindness – and looking forward to a happy, healthy future.
