Gracie and Carlie: Two Fearful Kittens Who Found Their Courage

At just six months old, Gracie and Carlie were handed over to us when their owner could no longer cope. After being neutered and receiving their first vaccinations, they came to us for fostering. We were told they were fearful of dogs, but we had faith in our gentle one-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Sam, who had lived with cats before and knew how to behave around them.

It didn’t take long for the kittens to reveal their affectionate nature, both with each other and with us. They would groom one another and loved nothing more than a cuddle and fuss. Carlie, in particular, had a habit of perching on my shoulder, rubbing her head against mine while purring loudly. My work efficiency certainly suffered, as they ‘helped’ me type or curled up on my office chair looking far too comfortable to move.

Though they initially bolted for safety whenever Sam entered the room, their courage soon shone through. Within days, they were letting him lick their heads and even tolerating a stroke from him.

Then, the perfect forever home appeared—a family with a five-month-old puppy looking to welcome two feline companions. Thanks to Sam, we knew Gracie and Carlie would manage just fine, and we were right.

Just three days later, their new owner sent photos of them happily snuggled on a lap, with their new puppy sibling gazing adoringly at them.
