Ensuring Your Fundraising is Safe and Compliant

INSURANCE

You may need public liability insurance if your event is open to the public. Check with your venue first, as they might already have coverage. If not, a quick online search will show plenty of insurance providers.

Raffles & Lotteries

Raffles and lotteries have specific rules. No special license is needed if you sell and draw tickets on the same day. However, if you’re selling tickets before the event, review the guidelines on the Gambling Commission website.

Collections

For public bucket collections, obtain permission from the local council (for public land) or the landowner (for private property).

Many councils and supermarkets may require a permission letter to collect for the RSPCA.

Food & Alcohol

Guidelines exist for selling food and alcohol at events. For safe food practices, visit the Food Standards Agency. If serving alcohol, check if your venue has a license; if not, submit a ‘temporary event notice’ to your local council to apply for a temporary license.

Photo & Video

When taking photos or videos at your event, ensure you have consent to capture, store, and share them.

For images of children, obtain permission from a parent or guardian.

Risk Assessments

Completing a risk assessment for your event can help identify hazards and plan to minimise risks.

Please note, the RSPCA is not liable for injuries at events organised “in aid of” the charity.

Paying in Your Funds

After your dedicated efforts in organising a fundraising event or taking on a challenge for RSPCA Oxfordshire, ensuring your collected funds reach us for their intended purpose is essential.

For cash donations, please avoid sending them by post.

Instead, follow these straightforward steps to transfer your funds to us safely:

  • Collect: Once your event ends, gather the raised funds.
  • Count: Always have two people present when counting any cash donations.
  • Deposit: Deposit the funds into your bank account, get a receipt, and then donate the amount to RSPCA Oxfordshire using your credit or debit card.

This can be done online or over the phone.
