How to adopt a rabbit

Rabbits are a popular choice for many families, with an estimated 900,000 rabbits kept as pets in the UK. And it’s no surprise, as owning rabbits can be extremely rewarding. They’re highly intelligent, inquisitive animals.

Step 1:
Search for rabbit available for adoption

Use our find a pet service. Here you can filter your search by location, age, gender and breed.

Step 2:
Complete a rehoming application form

Once you’ve found your perfect bunny buddy, complete our online application form. Our team will review it and get in touch to let you know if you’re a match. Fingers crossed for you and your fluffy new friend!

Step 3:
Get to know your chosen rabbit

If everyone agrees the rabbit you’ve chosen is the perfect match for you, it’s time to get to know each other!

It’s important for everyone in the household to meet your new bunny buddy to ensure compatibility and rule out any allergies or other concerns. You may be asked to arrange a second visit to the centre to make sure everything is just right.

Step 4:
Home visit

One of our adoption support volunteers will visit your home to discuss your new rabbit with you and share helpful tips for a smooth transition. For example, providing a cozy blanket with your scent can help your bunny feel more comfortable during the journey home.

Your home visitor will offer plenty of advice on caring for your rabbit, including any adjustments to your home and lifestyle that will help you both settle into a safe, secure, and happy life together. This may include guidance on preparing a suitable hutch or enclosure, removing potential dangers, and ensuring you have everything you need, such as the right bedding, hay, food, and toys.

Step 5:
Collect your new rabbit!

When everyone is happy that your chosen rabbit is the perfect match for you, and that your home is ready to welcome its newest addition, it’s time to head back to the centre to have your new bunny officially signed over!

Your centre may provide you with a blanket or item from your rabbit’s enclosure to help them feel more comfortable during the journey to their new home.
