New Charity Shop Coming to Didcot: We’re Hiring a Shop Manager!

We’re delighted to share some big news. RSPCA Oxfordshire & Reading is opening its first ever charity shop, right in the heart of Didcot, and we’re now looking for a talented Shop Manager to lead it.

It’s the first step in growing our charity retail presence across Oxfordshire and Reading, and every penny raised will go directly towards funding our local animal welfare work.

Why this matters

As a self-funded branch, we receive no money from the national RSPCA. Everything we do, from rescuing animals in need, to providing veterinary care, to finding loving new homes, is paid for entirely through the generosity of our local community.

Opening our own charity shops gives us a sustainable, long-term way to fund that work. It also creates a real presence on the high street, somewhere local supporters can drop in, donate, shop, and find out more about what we do.

Didcot is just the beginning. We hope to open further shops across the region in the months and years ahead, and the team we build here will help shape what comes next.

The opportunity

We’re looking for a Shop Manager to take the reins of the Didcot shop on a full-time basis (35 hours per week, including weekends on a roster with the Assistant Manager).

This is a brilliant role for someone who:

  • Has experience in charity retail (preferred but not essential)
  • Loves the buzz of maximising sales and hitting targets
  • Is highly organised and brilliant with people
  • Has experience managing or motivating teams, especially volunteers
  • Cares about delivering a warm, welcoming customer experience
  • Has an eye for detail and a track record of getting results

You’ll be responsible for creating a shop that customers, volunteers, and donors genuinely love walking into. You’ll lead the volunteer team, work closely with the Assistant Manager, and play a central role in turning donations into vital funds for animals in our care.

The details

  • Role: Shop Manager, Didcot
  • Hours: 35 per week, 5 days across a 7-day trading week (Monday to Sunday)
  • Hourly rate: £13.72 per hour
  • Closing date: Wednesday 20th May 2026
  • Interviews: Wednesday 27th May 2026, held in Didcot
