The first half of 2026 has been a busy one. Between January and June, 113 animals left our care and settled into loving new homes across Oxfordshire, Reading and beyond.
That’s 113 fresh starts. 113 families gaining a new member.
And 113 spaces freed up so we could welcome the next animal in need.
The numbers, month by month
Every one of these adoptions represents hours of care from our team: health checks, treatment, rehabilitation, and careful matching with the right home.
- January: 15 adoptions (10 cats, 4 rabbits and 1 bird)
- February: 18 adoptions (17 cats and 1 rabbit)
- March: 19 adoptions (14 cats, 2 rabbits and 3 guinea pigs)
- April: 23 adoptions (19 cats and 4 rabbits)
- May: 21 adoptions (14 cats and 7 rabbits)
- June: 17 adoptions (13 cats and 4 rabbits)
That adds up to 87 cats, 22 rabbits, 3 guinea pigs and 1 bird. April was our busiest month, with 23 animals heading home in just 30 days.
A milestone six months
These results are all the more special because of what else has happened this year.
In early 2026, we merged with RSPCA Reading and Oxon Border Branch to become RSPCA Oxfordshire & Reading, extending our reach across a wider area.
Keeping adoptions strong while bringing two branches together is a real credit to our staff and volunteers.
We’re also opening our first ever charity shop in Didcot, creating a brand new source of income to fund the care behind every one of these adoptions.
Local animals, local support
Many people don’t realise that RSPCA branches like ours are separately registered, self-funded charities.
We receive no funding from the national RSPCA, and everything we do is paid for by local donations, fundraising and soon, our shop!
Nationally, it’s the network of 135 local branches that does the lion’s share of rehoming, finding homes for more than 80% of all animals rehomed across the RSPCA.
When you support your local branch, you’re supporting the part of the RSPCA that gets animals back on their feet and into new homes, right here in Oxfordshire and Reading.
The second half starts now
There are more animals in our care right now, each waiting for their own fresh start.
If you’re thinking about adopting, take a look at the animals currently looking for homes, or if you’d like to help in another way, every donation goes directly towards the care of local animals.
Here’s to the next six months.
RSPCA Oxfordshire & Reading Branch is a self-funded, separately registered charity (no. 1210228). We rely entirely on the generosity of local supporters.
